I don't agree either.  I think it was just the overall suckassedness of the 90s.  What does he blame for the decline of the Barbarian Brothers?

Something looks weird about Stallone in these Expendables trailers.. maybe it's the neatly trimmed facial hair, or maybe he's wearing makeup.. has he had some work done?

Yeh, and what happened to the gritty realism of stars like CHARLES BRONSON or CLINT EASTWOOD from the '70s?  And what happened to the absurd '60s Psychedelia?  Or '50s SciFi?  Or '40s Noir?  Tastes change, and trends command cinema.

The heroes became more competent. They had to think on their feet, which is the opposite to being covered with muscles and spraying bullets into an army of bad guys while just getting grazed (maybe) by one bullet. The skilled hero is nearly impossible to beat as long as he's more resourceful and intelligent than his enemies. Most of these guys seem to know martial arts as well which requires a certain level of intelligence and control.

Giant 80's guys became obsolete when the heroes became smarter. I'd wear a muscle suit, too if it would intimidate criminals and doubled as body armor.
