I know where my towel is.

It's been that time of the year, but I've been too busy to post about it (though not too busy to enjoy them).  It's summer!  That means PEACHES!  Right now I have a bushel of them in the house, a mix of Loring, Glohaven, Redhaven, and Flamin' Fury (PF 24, I think - there are a bunch of sub varieties of Flamin' Fury that ripen at different times).  Fifer Orchard is near where I grew up, and we now live thirty or forty minutes drive from there, so I've been visiting their market store for peaches, blueberries, corn, cantaloupes, and honey.

The Loring's have been really good so far, even better than my normal favorite, the Flamin' Fury.  The Redhaven's were good.  To boot, the early peaches I like, the Sentry, were really good.

Right now is the really sweet spot in the season for fresh peaches (end of July to the middle of August), so I'm in Heaven with a capital "P" (for peaches).  Been eating between three and four of them a day, and occasionally glutting on up to six or seven.

If you haven't eaten a peach lately, find a good local orchard or farm market and enjoy!

Peaches are in my Top 5 favorite fruits. The best peach I ever ate was in Italy when white peaches were in season there. Those Italians take their produce  seriously

I take the kids here several times a year  http://www.eckerts.com/pyo.htm   depending on the time of year they can pick apples, peaches, pumpkins and even a Christmas tree. The youngest really likes it but the two oldest get more indignant about it with each passing year.   Bluesad

They grow them at my inlaw's farm.  I sold a bunch as part of my growers market for charity and they went rather quick.  Its been a great crop this year.

I have a different summer fruit fetish: cherries.  When summer comes around I hardly eat any other fruit.

I'm not really a fan of fresh fruits off the vine/tree.. sadly, I prefer them swimming in syrup in a can.
If anyone has had peach soda, now THAT'S really good stuff!

We took out our two plum trees last year; I want to put a couple of peach trees in their places.  Yum!

We did a lot of tree planting this year, but I didn't get to plant my peach trees.  Next year they are my priority, and I'll probably plant both Flamin' Fury and Loring trees.

You knew I had to do it Andrew!

That's a direct connection to my subconscious.  It's like they're broadcasting from inside my brain.

I have a different summer fruit fetish: cherries.  When summer comes around I hardly eat any other fruit.

Cherries are my second favorite.  A bowl of juicy, firm bing cherries is awesomely good.  The bings were not very good early in the season, but we had some good ones at the end.  The kids love Rainers, so we had a lot of them.  They were uniformly good this year.  A nice thing about Rainer cherries, when you have kids, is that they don't stain like the bings do.

Yes, the stains and the pits are a major drawback.  Rainiers just don't have the zing of bings, though!

Love peaches!  I usually stop at farmstands on weekends to stock up. Great for pies, to put in Sangria, cut up into cereal, or just plain snacking. I wish fresh peaches were a year round fruit.  I make do with canned peaches in the winter.
