I'm so clueless about pen names...

currently, I'm on page 53 on my new script (and the way things are going I should be done within a few weeks ~ my target is 90 to 100 pages) yay!!! and I'm planning on working on my second book soon.

Anyway I cannot come up with a pen name that works for me.  Bluesad

A common approach for pen names is to use your middle name as either your first or last name. Then, just substitute the other with something that rings well with the other. For example, my middle name is Louis. If it were me, I would use Louis as my first name, and perhaps even change the spelling to Lewis. Then, I would figure on a last name that either has some significance to me or just sounds good with Lewis. I might look at my genealogy and see if any other surnames from my family tree look or sound good with Lewis.

Just some suggestions. Sometimes we need an approach to help stimulate the ol' brain.

I've never used a pen name, but if I were a superhero, I would go by Phenono Man.

That's badass. Linus "Something." Just find something cool to go with Linus and I think you've got a killer pen name. Linus might actually go well as a last name. I could see that.

Why have a pen name anyways?  Just go with your full name including middle name and bam, instant classic!  Adding a middle name to anything makes it more classy in my opinion, especially a name like Linus.

Is there any reason a Pen name is preferred?  Unless you were writing something potentially inflammatory or an article to playboy, I personally think make it your name.

Sometimes people just want to keep their creative lives seperate from their everyday lives or to keep different aspects of their creative personalities seperate from each other (becoming well-known for doing one thing can make it difficult to get people to enjoy something else you do without associating it with the first thing). I'm considering taking a pen name for my non-horror art (or possibly my horror-related stuff) because I learned a hard lesson from one of my sculpture classes. I'd made this nice sort of hollow hand sculpture out of cheesecloth and plaster; when the critique came around, my professor was kind of surprised that I'd made it and said that initially he'd seen it as a lovely sculpture with nice, flowing lines; now that he knew who'd made it, the fact that he knew I was into horror made him see it as a horror piece even though I'd never intended it to be something creepy.

There are also many successful creative minds who became frustrated with their careers after they'd been pigeonholed; people wanted and expected them to make the same sort of thing all the time, so it became harder for them to do something different because of their reputation.

Coming up with a fitting pen name can be an exhaustive process for some and easy for others.

After years of talking about being a writer, I finally got off my butt a couple years ago and started doing it. I had always intended to be a science fiction and/or fantasy writer, but to my utter surprise, I found that I had a real flair for writing horror. Alas, such things would be frowned upon by some of my more fundamentalist Christian family members and friends, so I decided to adopt a pen name. But what to use?

Early on I decided that I wanted the first name to have at least two syllables and the last name to be a single syllable. To me that rolled off the tongue easier. Since my hand writing sucks and I figured that if I was ever successful, I would need to sign my name on books (here's hoping), I practiced various letters of the alphabet until I found one that was easy for me to write: J.

So the first name had to start with J and be more than one syllable. I also wanted the first name to be a name that could double as a last name, Like how "Harrison" has been used as both first and last names. At first I thought of using Jackson, but the wife hated it, saying it reminded her of an ex. I then considered Jefferson, but discarded it when looking in my liquor cabinet and spied a bottle of Jameson Irish whisky. So I had chosen Jameson as the first name. What would the last be?

At first I thought I might use Kane, since it started with a K and would put me on the bookshelf near King, Koontz and Keene, three big names in horror. Alas, that handwriting thing made writing big K's hard, so I changed it to Caine (which was also an homage to Sutter Cain from In the Mouth of Madness). The next step was to google the name Jameson Caine and see if anyone was using it. Nope. So I made it mine. I added the middle initial T to reflect my real first name and to give people an excuse to call me by it. Thus horror writer Jameson T. Caine  was born.

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

If it were me, I'd go with my middle name as my first name, my father's first initial as my middle initial (never actual reveal what it stands for, just keep it an initial) and my mother's maiden name as my last name.
