Just out of curiosity, has anyone ever encountered this on FB?  You want to friend someone you haven't seen in awhile but you notice there is a friend of theirs you REALLY want to avoid.  Is there a way you can become friends without that person knowing and comment on their wall/status privately?

I'm not sure, but I *think* that you'd have to set your security to "friends only".  That way only your friend would see anything to do with you (in any area that isn't set otherwise - for "everyone" or "friends of friends").  I have everything set to "friends only": my posts will not show up for people not on my friends list.

But then, that would affect all your friends too (I don't think it can be selective) - and maybe you would not want that?

Hmmm.  Maybe you can just "block" the person in question.  I know that one works, and it is specific.

Yep blocking would work quite well. But if they hear your on facebook and can't seem to find you, they probably could put two and two together. But blocking is probably the most specific and easiest of solutions.

Blocking is the best way to go. They can not see any status updates you post nor even access your FB page. As far as they know, you are not even on FB unless the person you're friends with post a reply in one of their post directed towards you. I have a couple of friends on FB who know people I don't wish to deal with. So while I am friends with them, I do have those people blocked.
