The first couple of movies, you can't blame them. They don't know that someone's sneaking around killing people. Toward the end of the original series, well, you'd think the mass murders every summer would have convinced them to move years ago. Mind you, it could be that the smarter ones actually did move away, and we just get to see some of the people who couldn't put two and two together getting killed. So, yeah, at least some of them were just too dumb to live.

You can't blame them for any of the movies, really.  The first one was a crazy woman taking revenge decades after her son's drowning, nobody would have expected that.

Part 2 and 3 take place on consecutive days, so nobody from Part 3 would have heard about the killings that happened in part 2.  And neither of them takes place at Camp Crystal Lake (at least not the original one).

Part 4 takes place the day after Part 3, and Jason supposedly died in part 3, so nobody in Part 4 would have had reason to suspect him to still be on the loose.

Part 5 is an unrelated string of murders by yet another grieving parent, years after Jason died (and was cremated).  It doesn't take place anywhere near Crystal Lake.

Part 6 is back in Crystal Lake, but Jason's been dead for several years.  NOBODY could have forseen him being resurrected by a lightning strike (especially after he was cremated ... uh, just never you mind about that).

I don't think anybody is at fault for not expecting a psychic girl to bring him back to life for Part 7.  That doesn't excuse the authorities for not retrieving his corpse from the lake in however long it was since Part 6, though ...

Part 8 takes place far away from Crystal Lake (yet AGAIN after Jason's been dead for a while), so nobody would have been expecting that.

Part 9 ... let's just not talk about that.

The scientists keeping Jason for study in Jason X may have had it coming, but the kids on the spaceship hundreds of years in the future sure can't be blamed for not expecting him to come back to life.

And in Freddy vs. Jason he was once again well outside his normal stomping grounds and had been dead for a long time before the movie started.

Yeah, can't blame the kids in part 2 either because the killings in part 1 were committed by Mrs. Voorhees, and she actually was dead after the end of that movie.  At that point, Jason was just a scary story to tell around the campfire.

Again, Crystal Lake has a high rate of brutal mass murders. There are reports and whatnot of previous murders in the movies, so the locals are aware of them. I seriously doubt that a cabin at Crystal Lake is such a good investment as to be worth the risk (especially since you'd think all those murders affect the real estate market somewhat).

Not a slasher movie, but equally deserving kids.  The dumb bully jocks in Alien Vs. Predator Requiem, and the lead jock's skanky girlfriend who cheats on him.  The jocks get torn apart by aliens and the skanky girlfriend is nailed to the wall by the Predator's throwing blade.

At first I thought that this was a weakness of the movie, as I felt no sympathy for the characters being knocked off one after the other, but after reading these comments, having unsympathetic characters was probably a deliberate decision for AvP Requiem.

I generally feel anyone dumb enough to not do the old "double tap" on the killer after he has been knocked down deserves what's coming to them.  You hit a serial killer with a weapon of convienence (chair leg, ball bat, etc.) and he falls.  In movies they always creep up on him slowly to see if he is dead.  I always ask "What are you waiting for? no-one told you to stop." If you have knocked him out that's only going to last for a short while (even on a normal human in real life, boxers that go down for a count of 10 seconds are typically revived within a few minutes at most, or (very rarely) they are dead/comatose for weeks) so you better get to disarming him and tying his a** up.  Cops do this, even if they shot a guy 5 times the first thing they do once they get over to him is to kick the gun away.  On the other had, if your confident that you can convince a jury later on everything you did was in self-defense then you have no reason not to just keep beating on his bloody and lifeless corpse until your strength gives out. Later you can claim temporary mental insanity caused you to mutiliate his corpse.

I would put the kids in Jeepers creepers 1 at the opposite end of this spectrum.  The girl keeps running over the bad guy with her car until she practically runs out of gas and then when his wings pop out hits him again on her way out for good measure.  Good idea, too bad he was completely immortal and it didn't work.  Kids did everything right and the boy in that one didn't deserve to die.

I thought once they saw how unkillable he apparently was, they should have just parked the car with the tire square on his back.  Don't think he'd have been able to stand up again at the very least.
