Hi there!

« on: October 06, 2010, 09:31:48 PM »

Man, this movie is AWESOME! I highly recommend this if you need a, dare I say it, a break from bad movies (gasp, three girls and a guy faint). But seriously, this is a good film. I don't want to spoil it if you a) haven't seen it and want to see and b) if you've seen it, but not in a long time. the only problem is Sissy Spacek's character playing as a 15 year old. The rest is good! Thumbup

Yeah this one was a surprise for me: I had never heard of it before but it was fantastic!

I've seen this movie many times.  It's based on the true story of Charles Starkweather and Caril Ann Fugate.  There is at least one other movie based on this story, but BADLANDS is the only one I've seen.

Actually, my post above is incorrect.  I have also seen THE SADIST with Arch Hall, Jr., which is loosely based on the Starkweather murders.  But there's at least one more movie (I can't think of the title) that I have not seen.

You may be thinking of one of these, as there are actually two more films based on the case. "Starkweather" (2004) w/ Brent Taylor as the older Starkweather and Rodney Ballard as the younger Starkweather and the TV movie "Murder in the Heartland" (1993) w/ Tim Roth as Starkweather.

Actually, one I was thinking of is STARK RAVING MAD (1983) or (1976) depending on which source you refer to.  Never saw it, but it's on my list.

True Romance also takes HEAVY inspiration from Badlands, even utilizing a nearly identical theme song.
