??  the dems are pushing through a bill that would allow illegal aliens to become citizens if they serve in the military.

Are illegal immigration and war things America doesn't have enough of in 2010? wtf

I don't see where on the political spectrum you would come down where incentivising these things would be anything resembling a good idea.

I agree. Add to it, that some, and I said some (but not all) illegals are in, (or are tied to) certain gangs. Let's not kid ourselves here.

Giving them military training is not a good idea. They can return to the streets armed with tactics and knowledge that will embolden them further. And given the fact that gangs have firepower equal to (or better than) current law enforcement,  again is not a good idea.

Were this "bill" to pass, it should be updated to include a FULL background check for any gang-related activities, (both in the U.S. and Mexico) prior to and after their 18th birthday. Any uncovered gang-related activity at all would be an instant ground for rejection, no matter the level of the activity.

Well, rewarding bad behavior seems to be the alternative to dealing with it. We've already seen the pardoning of the Lockerbie bomber, and the release of 6 Gitmo detainees who also got 200M to live on a beautiful sun-drenched island for the rest of their lives...think what that money would have done here at home.

if not enough people are signing up for the military you have to have less wars. you don't PAY non citizens to fight them for you and call it "progressive"

We tried paying citizens and non-citizens in Vietnam.

The ARVN (Amercan Republic Of Vietnam) was a mix of North and South Vietnamese, leftovers from the Viet-Min who fought the French, and other assorted SE Asian nationalities. Some even switched sides when it was advantageous for them, monetarily or otherwise.

Same problem we're having in Afghanistan. Not to mention opium-addicted Afghan soldiers whose drug-induced malaise sees them doing what they want, when they want.
