This is interesting... as you guys probably know the three main pixels on all TVs (and computers) are red, blue and green.  Mixes of these three colors make up all the other colors we see.  Well, this company called Sharp has introduced a new series of LCD TVs with what they're calling Quadpixel technology that adds a yellow pixel to the mix.  It's supposed to make the colors (not just the yellows) brighter and sharper looking.

Does it work?  I really don't know.  I've seen a commercial for it, but supposedly you really can't see the difference unless you're looking at it in person.  Neatly enough I've been told the same applies to Blue-Ray, that without a REAL fancy TV it's hard to tell the difference between it and regular DVDs, but I degrees.

So, anyone seen this?  If so, what did you think?

I haven't seen it, but it does sound like a pretty logical innovation.  Assuming of course that it makes a noticeable difference.

I have a cheaper TV but Blu Ray's look great on it. But other than that I'm kinda leaning toward this being kinda a gimmicky thing to attract people to the HD-TV market.

Small | Large

I absolutely loved the commercial with George Takei doing the typical "see how great the picture looks" commercial, but pointing out that you really can't. I've always thought commercials for televisions were weird for that very reason. What they're dazzling you with can't look better than the TV you're watching it on. When Sharp came out with a commercial spoofing that, I just cracked up. Why nobody thought of it before, I have no idea. I mean, if your goal is to convince people their present TVs aren't good enough, this approach makes sense.

Well, what's interesting is years back they had similar commercials on the radio for Bose Wave speakers that were supposed superior to the regular speakers.  They'd play a sampe of music and then the narrator would be, "But you probably can't hear just how much better our radios are because you['re listening with regular speakers."
