Ok a bit of an oddity to bring up on this board but I was wondering how people feel about these two films.  Personally I really like them as a bit of a guilty pleasure.  I grew up watching them as a kid and still find them entertaining.  Douglas, Turner and Devito I find are a great comedy team.  Although the action in the films isn't epic, the adventure aspect is fun.

Like you, I enjoyed them as a kid, even with the heavy romance aspects.  I can't really say how I would react to them today, but I think they're well-crafted, at the very least.

When I was a kid, my mum always stuck me in front of the telly to watch them.

Good fun.  Thumbup

See I think this is a great date movie series because of that aspect.  You have the cheesy romance for the gals and the fun action for the guys...or vice versa depending on the members in the relationship.

Oh, I agree, that's a formula for commercial success.  Hollywood did a similar thing with JERRY MAGUIRE: weepy romance mixed with NFL action.

I love Romancing the Stone!  More for the jungle though.. I like jungle movies.  I can watch it again and again and again and..

I don't really get into Jewel of the Nile as much, but I like it.

Both pretty decent movies, the first one particularly. Actually, it's got one of my favorite bad guy lines:

"How will you die, Joan Wilder? Slow, like a snail? Or fast, like a shooting star?"
