I prefer to have a coupon on hand when I shop at Micheal's for art supplies. It's strange...it's rare for a person to make enough money to live off their art, yet quality art supplies (and once you've used quality, cheap just doesn't cut it anymore) are freaking expensive.
So, yeah, when that particular store has something in stock that the cheaper mom-and-pop art store doesn't, I'll print off a coupon and go buy it there (40% off one item there actually brings it down to something closer to the standard pricing for it; they love to have HUGE mark-ups on everything, and then have a "sale" that brings the price down to normal.)
Well, I understand a bit of it. Especially quality paints. More and better dye substances are used and it definitely shows in the end product. The colors are much more vibrant and have a certain effect that I can't describe. I was surprised by the same effect with high quality color pencils over crayola.
