Anybody else a fan of the 80's SOV stuff? In particular, some of my favorites include: Boardinghouse, Video Violence, Sledgehammer (why is half of the movie filmed with slo-mo shots? lol), and Splatter Farm! I don't know what it is, but I'm constantly intrigued by these films whether good or bad. You can really find some "hidden gems" within the horror genre as a whole such as Death Row Diner.  Twirling

Here are a few favorites of mine, from an older thread:

Blood Lake was purty awful SOV trash. I liked it! Wink Blood Cult and Revenge were pretty cool. The Ripper SUCKED. Damn, I do love me some of dat SOV stuff, though. Now I really wanna see Black Devil Doll From Hell and Tales From The Quadead Zone. Also wanna see Hollywood's New Blood. There's just something about these movies that...I dunno, they just seem to fill a void with their DIY ethic, I guess.  Thumbup

I'm not a fan of it at all.  Maybe I haven't seen enough to really make a proper judgement, but Violent Sh*t was so damn awful I couldn't finish it.  Not just the movie but SOV is so amateurish (maybe that's part of the "appeal") I really can't get into it.

I'm with retro on this one, but nothing wrong with anybody appreciating SOV movies. I mean, it's a bad movie site, so go for it. I just don't like the look of it.

Rod Serling was forced to produce several episodes of The Twilight Zone one season by the studio because of cost factors. They decided to give it a shot because soap operas were done on video, and being business people instead of artists, of course, they didn't see why it would be such a bad idea. Rod was vehemently against, for good reason, and the result was awful. So much so that even on reruns and marathons they tend to avoid showing them. I've seen a couple of them before, and the only one I remember clearly was the one with Billy Mumy where his dead grandmother was calling him on a toy telephone, which could have been great had it not been for the atrocious video. Rod Serling said "never again" and good thing.

You should purchase Mill Creek's DECREPIT CRYPT OF NIGHTMARES and TOMB OF TERRORS 50 movie packs.  These consist of some of the cheapest shot on video movies you will ever see (although, they are not all from the 1980s).  I'm not exaggerating when I say some of these movies look like a bunch of friends got together with a camcorder on a Saturday and decided to make a movie.

I'd amend that:
