A good bad movie is like popcorn for the soul!

« on: January 24, 2011, 07:37:44 AM »

This is a pretty creepy little indie thriller that I had watched the trailer to several times and finally got to see this week.  It was definitely worth the rental fee!

Rob and Trevor are two twentysomething dudes who run an Estate Liquidation Service - for a flat fee they will purchase the household goods of a deceased individual and sell it all on EBay within a set period of time, then move on to the next household.
They have moved into the home of a deceased individual named Bill Zill in order to liquidate his stuff, and find that his laptop is tuned to a voyeur website called FourBoxes.tv.  According to Rob, this site was originally a live broadcast from the home of a hot blonde who had installed a camera in four different rooms of her house.  But then she abruptly moved out, and a very weird guy that Rob calls "Havoc" moved in.  The rest of the movie is devoted to Rob, Trevor, and Rob's fiance Amber watching the FourBoxes websites as Havoc's actions become increasingly erratic and menacing - he is building bombs of some sort, testing poisonous gas on animals, and never shows his face at all.  Romantic sparks fly as we find out that Amber used to be Trevor's girlfriend before she hooked up with Rob.  But as events on the computer grow stranger and stranger, the three friends have to face some disturbing questions . . . are the events on the website part of a scripted show, or are they witnessing a terrorist attack in the making?  And what is it about the house on the webcast that they all find strangely familiar?

There are some plotholes, and the dialogue is hard to follow in a couple of places, but overall this is a tight, enjoyable little thriller with several nifty little twists on the way to the end.  Enjoy!

Hmmm, looks kind of interesting.  I added it to the Netflix queue.

I see Trevor in the synopsis. Are there any scenes involving his underpants?

On the website www.fourboxesthemovie.com there is a ' Thumbup' of sorts for the movie: apparently an audience member shouted "[expletive deleted] you, movie!" at the screen.  TeddyR

My girlfriend's name was Antonia: not Amber, and who the hell is Rob?  Question Wink
