What is your favorite Genre of Music?

Traditional Polka Music Played on Dog Whistles.

I've always loved the Traditional Polka Music Played on Dog Whistles genre since I was little, and I love the purists who keep it truly traditional. I hate when the world-music lamos take Traditional Polka Music Played on Dog Whistles and try to duplicate it on sythesizers with all kinds of fancy production. Unfortunately for purists like myself, the Traditional Polka Music Played on Dog Whistles category on iTunes usually gives me just that. I'm sorry, but samplers just can't seem to reproduce that sweet timbre that only dogs can hear quite like the real thing. Most of the authentic Traditional Polka Music Played on Dog Whistles recordings are out of print, but once in a while I'll find some on vinyl at my local vintage LP shop.

I don't necessarily partake in one specific genre.  I like stuff ranging from Sinatra and Etta James all the way to The White Stripes and ZZ Top.

The stuff I mainly listen to though, if I had to choose, is punk, psychobilly, rap, New Wave, and early to mid '90s alternative.

Since people have been naming bands as examples, here's some ones I like:
Motorhead, Anthrax, Weird Al Yankovic, Ramones, Clash, Black Flag, Bad Religion, Misfits, Devo, Horrorpops, Murderdolls, Insane Clown Posse, Black Sabbath, Jimi Hendrix, Pink Floyd, New Kids on the Block, Blondie, Little Richard, Chuck Berry, Jerry Lee Lewis, Elvis, Iggy and the Stooges, The White Stripes, The Strokes, ? and the Mysterians, The New York Dolls.

Bands I don't like: The Eagles, Led Zeppelin, Bruce Springsteen, The Who, Cream, Cheap Trick, Neil Young, Bon Jovi, and The Kinks, amongst others.

I like to borrow a comedy device that Steven Wright used a lot. You take a topic, and replace the main element of it with something else, preferrably something absurd or inappropriate, and talk about it normally. In this case, I took any real music genre and replaced it with Traditional Polka Music Played on Dog Whistles, and talked about as if it were a real thing, as if it were punk or hip hop or country.

Meh. he's talented, without a doubt, and the man can sing, no question. It's just something stylistic I don't like. First, I'm not a big fan of blues that is focused on some guy wanking away on his guitar over and over on the same old blues runs, I don't care how good the guitarist is. I recognize that Stevie Ray Vaughn is a great guitarist, but I can only tolerate endless blues soloing for so long. It's a personal thing, to be sure, but hey, viva difference! Like I said, when it comes to blues, I like Robert Johnson and others like him.

I'm with you Flick---I love acoustic folk blues, not so much electric blues.  I like B.B., Bobby Bland, Stevie Ray OK, but their music sounds a bit polished and sophisticated, not nasty and gutbucket the way I like it.

I was 100% Classic/Prog/Metal rock until about 10-15 years ago, then I drifted into some more odd ways...Goth, Alternative, industrial rock, and now most recently the non-dance electronic "chill" music.  I love techno-y stuff when I'm studying, it doesn't require all your attention.

I know some of the stuff you're talking about.  Some of it is quite good.  On the whole I'm not a big 'blues' guy, but B.B. is one that I liked back when I was around 6, so I hold him special.  My grandfather used to play his records all the time.
