After the instant success of a friend of mine who posted on here recently I decided to try it out...

I'm looking for an alien movie that I saw when I was younger, it was probably 1999 or so, which was being played on TV. I am certain it was a movie, though, not a TV show. It was probably from the 80s judging from the quality, maybe earlier, but no later. I can't remember many details, but what I do remember is from the last scene or near the end. The scenery is in a desert area with many plateaus, and it is on earth. I think I remember there being some younger characters, young to mid teens, but everyone else was an adult. Or maybe what I'm remember is flashbacks from the main characters from when they were kids. Anyway, the end scene of the movie I think some people are taken up by aliens, or some aliens leave earth, and the conclusion is that they have all realized that the human race was started by aliens, or that they (the main characters) are all aliens, or that every human is an alien. Something along those lines. And the population at large never realizes the truth that the select main characters have realized. And the very last thing is an ending monologue/ voice over by one of the characters.

Sorry it's vague! That's the best I can do.

The ending part you describe sounds like "The Martian Chronicles" with Rock Hudson, it was a 3 part mini series with each part being around 2 hours long or so. The ending is where Rock (can't remember his character name) has a conversation with the ghost of a martian that turns out to be what humans became thousands of years later living on Mars, so both are alien to each other but still the same species. Later Rock takes his family to meet some martians and after a speech has them look into a pool reflecting their faces.

Although the premise of aliens are human/ humans are aliens isn't a rarity in sci-fi, it's the only one I can think of that fits your description. Also I know I said mars not earth, in the mini series mars supposedly has a blue earth like sky which helps explain why humans can live on the surface without suits on all the time.

Could it be "Laserhawk" starring Mark Hamill and the kid from "Free Willy?"
