I'll probably get some hate mail for listing this under "good movies," but I found it to be edgy, disturbing, and well done. I bought this widescreen DVD-R from Cinema de Bizarre. It's in Japanese with English subtitles.
A burglar breaks into the home of a wealthy couple and rapes the wife (who enjoys it) in front of her husband. The woman becomes pregnant and her husband beats her and forces her to watch him having sex with a prostitute.
Years later, the son grows up and inherits the family fortune. He kidnaps women and chains them up in the basement of his mansion. Sometimes he puts them in cages, other times he just ties theirs arms and legs with ropes or chains.
The movie contains many unsettling scenes (rape, whippings, humiliation). In one scene, a woman is forced to masturbate while the psychotic kidnapper watches. In another, a woman is forbidden to use the toilet and she eventually urinates (a lot) on the floor. The kidnapper kills another woman and has sex with her bloody corpse while it is hanging from chains. And there's a lot of sex (not hardcore, but pretty graphic . . . one scene involves a dog). This movie would easily get an NC-17 rating in the U.S.A.
This movie was made years before stuff like SAW and HOSTEL made torture porn common. But BEAUTIFUL GIRL HUNTER is much more serious, visceral, well acted, directed, and photographed. Unfortunately, even though it's a higher quality production than most of today's torture porn flicks, there's no getting around the fact that it's still torture porn. So, I'm sort of ashamed to call it a good movie. If you're looking for entertainment, you won't find it here. This movie is a real downer. But I do have to respect the filmmakers for making such a gutsy, unsettling movie.
