Once again its time for Ed and Mrs Ed to go international.  This time the chance for a cheap-ish trip to Norway has come our way.   Any of you folks ever been? Any must sees?  I know its not a common vacation spot, but I'll take what I can get.

A friend of mine goes there quite regularly.  He says its clean and beautiful and the people are friendly and educted and well mannered and they speak English in a lot of instances.  But it's very expensive to stay there.  In spite of that, he encourages everyone to go.

No one has ever been there.

I've been there, but due to being on the road, have not had the chance to post until now.

Norway *IS* beautiful, and the people ARE very cool.  It was 1979 when I was there, though...so I don't know how much it has changed.

In Oslo, there is a museum where you can see remains of actual Viking vessels and artifacts.  There are probably others, but that's the one I visited.

We enjoyed the pizza we got in Oslo better than that purchased in Rome.  Go figure.

A cool book to read before you go if you have the chance is Into the Light by Dave and Ja Ja Martin.  The Martins sailed (with their three children) to Iceland, spent the winter there, then the next summer sailed to Norway and spent the winter there.  The following summer, they sailed to Spitzbergen and beyond - got within about 60 miles of the North Pole before being turned around by ice.

It's a very cool read, and may give some "color" about the people local to the Bergen area.  In any case, it's a neato story written in a fun, easy-going style.

Enjoy the trip...I'm betting it will be awesome.
