1. My seriously icky undies.  Twirling TongueOut

2. Abused as a child and raped as an adolescent: despite this, that abuse stops with me.
3. Grew up in a civil war.
4. I have serious issues as a direct result of 2 and 3 above but I am not hooked on anything except life.
5. I like children and for some odd reason, they like me too.
6. People who have kids and who are aware of my past will quite happily let me look after their kids as they know that I will sooner kill myself than hurt a child.
7. Film is my passion ~ especially really bad ones, that is the reason I am here.
8. I hate to use a communist term but I am an activist: for South African film that is (thanks, Mofo Rising)

I'm fascinated with taxidermy.  If it weren't for my wife, my house would be filled with dead stuffed animals.  Hell, I would probably take it up as a hobby if I had the money.

Although I'm a fan of dark, evil and morbid things I don't consider myself personally any of those things.  Matter of fact the idea of death and dying is rather frightening to me.

I'm a fairly non-social quasi misanthrope yet I work in a highly people-oriented career. I'm not saying I'm a total misanthrope in that I don't hold humanity in complete contempt, but I definately tend toward "I wish people would just leave me the f**k alone" much of the time. I want to spend time with my family, but that's about it. Yet, if you talked to most of the students I counsel they would probably tell you I'm a very social person and probably have lots of friends.

I'm okay with all of that.

I always thought it would be fun to be a veterinarian, and get a taxidermy license on the side.  Then I could hang ou a sign in front of my clinic that said: "Either way, you're gonna get your dog back!"

Oh a couple of things:

1. I don't or have ever owned an IPod.  I see why it would be cool to have one, but I have no interest in it.
2. I have a cellphone, but I only use it to call people or play Solitare on it.  Occasionally answer texts from parents, but that's it.
3. I will listen to any song once, no matter what genre, and not be put off because of the artist.  I want to give every song a chance.  As such...
4. I like Pop music.
5. Even though I like horror, I am too nervous to watch most horror movies or read most horror novels.
6. Even though I am guy who likes manga, I own a few series that are targeted at girls.  I give most things a chance to either impress or disappoint.
7. I also like Star Wars Episode 1-3, the live action verison of the Grinch & The Cat in the Hat, Larry the Cable: Health Inspector, and Cool World.
8. I find Blade Runner and most hyped classics to be overrated.
9. I never played any sports, joined any groups, or be involved in events in High School; I was nominated for Prom King & Homecoming King.
10. I have no interest in drinking at all when I reach 21.

Kind of unusual for this board, I don't really watch Kaiju films much.

Same here, and I hate when people make assumptions of you, just because you might get a kick out of Horror movies, or read horror fiction. Lookingup

I always loved stuff everyone else (whoever they are) thought was weird, different, strange. Was told as a youngster that reading comics would rot my brain..still read 'em and loved them and they didn't stop me from attaining a college degree. Was told by many that wrestling was garbage but I feel I actually learned a bit about right and wrong from watching it back in the days that the good guys actually rarely ever broke any rules. Cartoons were filled with moral lessons. All of these things and bad movies too often provided an escape from reality which was a help at down and lonely times. Good to know now I wasn't alone in my love for such things.

That's not so bad. I'd consider you more unusual if you wore your shoes to bed. TeddyR

I am seen as unusual in the eyes of the world, due to me being an unusual person. How? Glad you asked, for I shall elaborate.
-Classic/vintage/golden age cartoons are not for kids. They're for social misfits. I'm a social misfit. Thus...
-I find the Critters movies, Night of the Lepus, Chopping Mall or Alligator more entertaining than The Dark Knight, Titanic, Avatar or Star Wars.
-Pixar movies bore me, as do most CGI-animated films.
-I was the only student in my high school who knew who the Marx Brothers, Abbot and Costello or Laurel & Hardy were.
-I sing while in the shower.
-I don't watch TV, just my DVD collection.
-I don't play video games that much (I have a PS2, Xbox360 and a Wii...But my mom and little brother play them much more than I do).
-I prefer root beer to beer, and prefer orange juice to coffee

Been there many, many times. I've been misunderstood a lot due to the same things.  It really bites when you spend alot of time trying to get yourself across, building a great bridge, and then having it collapse because you put one block where it shouldn't have been.

Again though, great post and you're not alone in this area.   Cheers

Well, I guess it's good to have someone to relate to, but I wouldn't really wish these aspects of my personaility on anyone.  The "misunderstandings" as they were have gotten me fired, investigated at my former work places, brought up on a misdemeanor charge (which were, thankfully dropped), accused of being various things I'm not, and cost me potential friends and possibilty a few dates.

Course, I dunno how much is my personaility and how much is simply a lack of social experiences.  When you spend a lot of time alone from early childhood on up to adulthood, you find yourself rather uncertain as to the "proper" way of interacting with people.  So many times I feel like I'm still an awkward teenager, trying to figure out what the unwritten "rules" are and how I can avoid breaking them.

(sighs)
