Hi there!

« on: March 19, 2011, 07:59:20 PM »

What is it: Neo-Film noir with Teen film
Reaction: THIS MOVIE f**kING ROCKS! seriously, if you want to find a decent teen film, other than Rebel Without a Cause, then watch this! 5/5, this is not only a good film, but this is better than The Shawshank Redemption, yes, even f**king better than Shawshank Redemption! hot And why not, have collage kids act as Senors at a high school (which is for the most part empty) and deal with drugs. the main character, Brendan, tries to find out what happened to his ex when she calls for help. Unfortunately,  she dies before he can help her. So he goes and find answers to solve this personal case. hot rods (two) included! Now, with every film, there has to be a WTF moment in them- in this case, the drug lord, The Pin (who is supposedly 26) mom- completely distracts the film's plot for like 20 seconds. other than that, this is friggen awesome, man! It's in my Nelflix Queue. I hear it's reminiscent of Hard Candy in a way.

It's nothing like Hard Candy, though both are excellent films.

I really enjoyed Brick and will watch it again sometime soon.  It's basically a neo-noir mystery movie but with high school kids instead of adults.  The dialogue can be a bit tricky to understand at first, but it gets better.  Where else can you hear the main character say, "I've got knives in my eyes, I'm going home sick."

I dig this movie a lot too.  Early signs of Joseph Gorden Leavitt's acting chops.  I will however respectfully disagree with the assertion that this is a better film than Shawshank.

this is what you call a Neo-noir teen film. TeddyR

Shawshank is too overrated and Brick, to me, is a much better film to watch.

Brilliant film. My Film class were set to go see it on release here in Britain but I decided against it, imagining something between Bugsey Malone, Recess and 3rd Rock - plus the indie cinema in Liverpool was too expensive for my tastes.  Lookingup

However I since then got it on DVD as a present and it has ignited a brosexual love of all things JGL within my heart.
