I rented this at Hasting's the other night and found it to be a fun, if somewhat predictable, horror film. Jeniffer's boyfriend Evan buys her a house for her birthday - their first home, which he got dirt cheap. Now he and Jeniffer invite four friends to help them clean out the old place and fix it up. Of course, the old place is fully furnished because the last family that lived there were brutally murdered. Turns out the young boy developed a bizarre skin infection after a clumsy barber cut his scalp during a haircut, and his face literally rotted off his skull while he was still alive. As she saw him dying of his condition, she embraced the dark arts and sacrificed a baby to restore her son to life and health - but the local villagers caught up to her, and she and the son were both killed before the ritual was complete. But now the young couple have disturbed the evil, faceless terror in the ground, and he rises to seek vengeance - singling out, of course, the young couple's friends who sneak off to odd rooms of the old mansion to make out and meet horrible ends. And of course, the local townsfolk TRY to warn the frivolous youngsters against disturbing those who rest in the ground, but they never listen . . . and, well, you kinda get the idea. Not a bad little movie, couple of genuinely scary moments along the way.
