TOP GUN is an embarrassment at #1.  (Man, I hope I don't have to go post in "Movies You Hate That Other People Love" thread on this one).

Notable 1986 movies outside the top 20: BLUE VELVET, BIG TROUBLE IN LITTLE CHINA, LABYRINTH, LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS, THE FLY, HENRY PORTRAIT OF A SERIAL KILLER, SID AND NANCY, GOTHIC.

And lets not forget BREEDERS, HELL SQUAD, REFORM SCHOOL GIRLS...  Wink

I agree with you there Rev. Top Gun is horribly overrated, it's a decent film but I thought Iron Eagle was way better. I've seen all those films apart from Legal Eagles. LOVE Cobra, Ruthless People and Police Academy: 3. A good year.

As much as I like looking at these flashbacks, it makes me a little depressed because of the major crap that is out now. Looking through these list I also mentally tick off which I think is going to be remade if it has not been done already.

Please don't stop posting them tough Cheers

There are some pretty good films in there.  Thumbup

I'm fond of Poltergeist II so thats good to see. I think thats a pretty good list of films. Like Circus, I also prefer Iron Eagle (especialy the third).

01. $176,786,701 - Top Gun
I've always thought this movie sucks, to be quite honest.

02. $174,803,506 - Crocodile Dundee
Ditto.

03. $138,530,565 - Platoon
Never saw.

04. $115,103,979 - The Karate Kid Part II
Not as good as the first, but I enjoyed it.

05. $109,713,132 - Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
The mysterious cylinder - and whatever may be inside it - are still incredibly cool.  To find great ideas hiding inside a fish-out-of-water comedy is unexpected.

06. $091,258,000 - Back to School
Never saw.

07. $085,160,248 - Aliens
Hasn't held up over time, for me.  It's good from the ceiling attack onwards but the preceding two-thirds of the movie, I could take or leave.

08. $079,817,937 - The Golden Child
Not very good.

09. $071,624,879 - Ruthless People
Barely remember it.

10. $070,136,369 - Ferris Bueller's Day Off
Another one that hasn't held up too well.  Plus, I just saw it so many times I'm over it.  Forever.

11. $062,134,225 - Down and Out in Beverly Hills
???

12. $052,293,982 - The Color of Money
Never saw.

13. $052,287,414 - Stand by Me
Never saw.

14. $049,851,591 - Legal Eagles
Cool fire sequence at the end.

15. $049,042,224 - Cobra
Awesome dumb action movie.

16. $047,483,002 - An American Tail
I still get a little choked up when I watch it.

17. $043,579,163 - Police Academy 3: Back in Training
Blah.  They should have quit with the first one.

18. $042,724,017 - Heartbreak Ridge
Never seen anything but the first thirty minutes or so.

19. $041,382,841 - Peggy Sue Got Married
???

20. $040,996,665 - Poltergeist II: The Other Side
Not good.

02. $174,803,506 - Crocodile Dundee - I remember seeing this as a kid and enjoying the hell out of it.
06. $091,258,000 - Back to School - this did not age well. I rented this a few months ago and was very disappointed.

I never saw the rest.
