I'm surprised Conan's all the way down at #17.  I think I've seen everything in the top ten except Tootsie, E.T. and Annie.  I though Firefox was an excellent movie, probably seen it 3 times.

No TRON, BLADE RUNNER or FAST TIMES AT RIDGEMONT HIGH?  I guess those all flopped harder than I thought they did.

DOMESTIC GROSSES #1–20

01. $359,197,037 - E.T.: The Extra-Terrestrial (Overrated but successful mass marketed kids film. Arguably changed film history. Has some good moments but is too wishy washy.)
02. $177,200,000 - Tootsie (Recall very little about it now aside from it being funny at the time.)
03. $129,795,554 - An Officer and a Gentleman (This was a huge deal, recall how excited my parents were when it debuted on TV. I know they loved it. I only ever saw bits and pieces of it.)
04. $124,146,897 - Rocky III (I love this one! Total Nostalgia watching it)
05. $105,492,483 - Porky's (Fun but indeed a bit overrated, appealed to me more as a teenager.)
06. $078,912,963 - Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (Fantastic! The best Trek movie period!)
07. $078,868,508 - 48 HRS. (Not half bad.)
08. $076,606,280 - Poltergeist (One of the first films to truly frighten me again. Love it.)
09. $069,701,637 - The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas (Recall it being a big deal. Overrated fluff comedy in reality.)
10. $057,059,003 - Annie (Great little family musical. Pretty good of its type.)

11. $053,977,250 - The Verdict (Haven't seen)

What a lousy year for box office hit movies.....

Some of those are ok but no really good movies IMO.  Star Trek 2 is probably my "favorite" just for the Shatner/Montalban humor value...

Saw it in the theater when it came out and was very confused.  It was like a horror movie at first, then it seemed like it was trying to be funny, then it was sad, then it was happy.  What the hell is that?  And, you know what, I still feel that way about it.  I don't particularly like E.T. at all.

03. $129,795,554 - An Officer and a Gentleman
Kinda sucked.

04. $124,146,897 - Rocky III
Mickey.   Bluesad

05. $105,492,483 - Porky's
It actually works better as a coming of age drama than any sort of comedy.  Also not nearly as raunchy as popular opinion would have it.

06. $078,912,963 - Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan
Probably the best Star Trek movie, and one of the best science fiction movies around.

07. $078,868,508 - 48 HRS.
Meh.

08. $076,606,280 - Poltergeist
Kids' movie, my ass.  This sucker has some seriously scary stuff going on!

09. $069,701,637 - The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas
Never saw, on purpose, because it's a musical.

10. $057,059,003 - Annie
Saw it on TCM or AMC recently.  WTF?  Telly Savalas wasn't Daddy Warbucks?  I know it isn't fair, just because I misremembered who played what part, but that killed the movie for me.  Telly Savalas was born to play Daddy Warbucks!

11. $053,977,250 - The Verdict
Never seen.

12. $052,767,889 - Gandhi
Never seen.

13. $047,212,904 - First Blood
I thought it would have been a more effective movie if Rambo really had been plain crazy and dangerous, rather than pushed over the edge.

This should have been a comedy instead of a drama.

15. $046,708,276 - Firefox
One of my favorite Clint Eastwood movies, though possibly for no other reason than I saw it when I was little and imprinted on it.

16. $040,577,001 - The Dark Crystal
See this here?  This is probably the best fantasy film ever made.

17. $039,565,475 - Conan the Barbarian
This movie just worked.  Period.

18. $039,103,425 - The Sword and the Sorcerer
Not really a Conan rip-off so much as a cash-in, and it's actually pretty good.  Except that the sword and the sorcerer don't really do much.

05. $105,492,483 - Porky's...Dumb Fun with Boobs. Hot Diggity!

06. $078,912,963 - Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan... The best of the film series.

07. $078,868,508 - 48 HRS....I really liked this movie. It's not very deep, but it's fun.

17. $039,565,475 - Conan the Barbarian...It was pretty good on it's own, but not a great actualization of the stories, which is what I was hoping for.

18. $039,103,425 - The Sword and the Sorcerer...I actually liked this better than Conan.

Good mentions for 1982. I am also surprised Fast Times wasn't in the top 20. I've never seen Liquid Sky or Fantasy Mission Force, and I've never even heard of Amazon Jail. I love It Came From Hollywood. That was among the first sparks in my adolescence that got me into a taste for camp that I hold to this day.
