Quite a while back I had started a series of threads called "Top 5 Inferno" with various topics, inviting everybody to provide their Top 5 in a specialized category, along the lines of the music geeks from High Fidelity (2000) who would always talk about/debate their personal Top 5 this or that.

I'd like to revive that, because it seemed to be pretty fun, I'm just adjusting the title to "Top 5 Time."

So, to start things off, we'll go with Top 5 80's Comedies. So, let's have it. What are your personal Top 5 comedy films from the 80's. Here's mine, not necessarily in a particular order:

1. Planes, Trains and Automobiles (1987)
2. Airplane! (1980)
3. Top Secret! (1984)
4. Arthur (1981)
5. Ferris Bueller's Day Off (1986)

There are so many comedies from that decade that I love, but I had to choose 5. The ones listed, I have to say, are movies that I would stop on if I were flipping through channels 10 out of 10 times. Some honorable mentions:

Caddyshack
Fletch
Real Men
Ruthless People
Summer School (so bad it's good entry)
Trading Places

5? Wow there is no way I can give you an absolute Top 5 on this. The 80's were a pretty good time for comedies and I'm notalgic about that decade so my favorites tend to fluctuate. However, my Top 5 for right now are:

1. Ghostbusters
2. National Lampoon's Vacation
3. Planes, Trains & Automobiles
4. Adventures in Babysitting
5. Back to the Future

I could have easily included Better Off Dead, Caddyshack, When Harry met Sally, Fast Times at Ridgemeont High and Spaceballs in this list.

I would put BROADWAY DANNY ROSE on the list.  In fact, that's one of my top 10 comedies of all time.

Interesting topic, I like the "top 5" idea.  This list is thrown together kind of quickly, without too much thought:

AIRPLANE! (1980)
THE BLUES BROTHERS (1980)
THIS IS SPINAL TAP (1984)
RAISING ARIZONA (1987)
A FISH CALLED WANDA (1988)

Just missed: BACK TO THE FUTURE (1985), A CHRISTMAS STORY (1983), THE PRINCESS BRIDE (1987)

I went with standard comedies and didn't include black comedies (another top 5 category, maybe?)  If I had I would have considered AFTER HOURS & THE KING OF COMEDY, BRAZIL, HEATHERS... and maybe even EVIL DEAD 2?

This is a tough one.

Not in any particular order.

1) Uncle Buck (1989)
2) Back To School (1986)
3) Stripes (1981)
4) Sixteen Candles (1984)
5) Pee wee' Big Adventure (1985)

There are so many to choose from:

Fletch
The Man with Two Brains
Revenge Of The Nerds
Scrooged

I could go on and on.
