Alien movie title help!

Hey folks, this has blown my mind for the past two days and I'm hoping you can put me out of my misery!

All I can remember of the film was it was low budget, 90's - 00's film, and it was very loosely based around war of the worlds, and the only scene I can recall from the top of my head is about 20 minutes in, our main character wakes up in a wooded area, with people running around, large alien comes along, and picks him up with a giant crab claw-like appendage, and this was possibly the worst piece of CGI I have ever witnessed, as the claw picks him up, he is actually behind the claw....

I need the name!! Help is much appreciated :)

I believe that actually is a version of War of the Worlds, a cheap one, in which the alien war machines look sort of like scorpions.  It comes on SyFy every now and then.

There was a short-lived 90s HBO show called Perversions of Science that did an episode that was sort of about War of the Worlds.  It took place at a costume party and when they hear the broadcast on the radio, two guys at the party dressed in space suits start killing everyone - the premise being that they have been posing as humans for some time, waiting for the actual invasion and they've mistaken the broadcast for real news that their invasion has started.  I thought that was a cool twist.

I don't remember anything about a scorpion alien but I saw that episode a long time ago so I'm not sure.  They definitely had some bad CGI in that show.  Figured I'd throw it out there.

That was a fairly amusing show from what I remember.  There was a Kevin Pollack/William Shatner episode that was interesting, and another one with one of the London twins.

Thanks for your input so far guys, don't think we've nailed it quite yet though :( It was definitely a feature length movie, and I'm 90% sure it either had a 1 or 2 word title, and it wasn't the war of the worlds re-make, I should have said it was war of the worlds-esque....

I will say what I thought it was called, I didn't want to cloud anyones ideas... I thought it was called Alien Invasion, or just Invasion, or something along those lines, it was a simple enough name, but no amount of searching the interwebs or looking at synopsis for films of that nature has turned up any results.

I had the bugger on DVD but in my infinite wisdom of sharing sh*t I leant the DVD to someone, however I can't remember who the someone was!! I wanted to find it to see if I could actually sit through a movie that is so incredibly bad.

The Asylum produced a War of the Worlds mockbuster that was released in 2005. It was also called Invasion. The movie starred C. Thomas Howell. You can check his IMDB page to see if this is the movie you remember.
