I completely agree with the original poster, Hobo with a Shotgun is a wonderful movie. In particular I LOVED with all my heart the confrontation of Hobo and the children in the hospital. A perfect description of society and people.

Good movie.  I thought it was supposed to be a tribute to 70s grindhouse but it really felt more 1980s to me, like something you'd catch on USA Up All Night.  Think a Troma movie, but done straight faced, without fart jokes.   4/5.

Yeah, if you see the list of inspirations Jason Eisner lists, they're definitely more 80s trash than 70s grindhouse.  I recall him listing the Exterminator, Vice Squad, Class of 1984, for example.

While I enjoyed the film, I'd agree it kind of slides downhill towards the end.  Weak ending.  It's a low 8/10, which was a little disappointing as I was very excited for it.

I think for purity of creation, it was impossible to top the original fake trailer.  It's brilliant.

Rewatched it two weeks ago. Had a much better time compared to my first viewing, although I still think the actors playing Ivan and Slick were terrible (and not in a good way.)

I didn't love this one like I expected to.  I knew what it would be like going in, and I thought Hauer was awesome, but it just wasn't as much fun as I'd hoped.  Maybe because of the villain, as others have mentioned here he just wasn't fully fleshed out as a character.

I finally saw "H.W.A.S." last night (scored a previously viewed copy at my local drug store, of all places)... I thought it was a hoot. If Troma had made "Death Wish 3" it probably would've looked something like this.

3.5/5

Hauer is brilliant and the gore is great, I just wish the villains were more Lee Van Cleef evil, instead of moronic.
But, like Rev said, it has a Troma feel but without all the stuff I cant stand.

Good ending though.

And the verdict is....

DAM! WTF? Why aint Tarintino-or even Tarintino wannabe Rob Zombie-who all seem to take great older charecter actors and actresses-give Rutger Haur a job?
He's f**king amazing. I never took a second of it seriously-It's ULTRA violent-s**t in here is more disturbing than most "torture porn" films-but ya don't take it serious-it's just so over the top insane.

I agree-what Ash said about the lighting fit perfect in film's of the 80's-and the soundtrack-right down to the cheesy rock ballad at the end credits captured 80's exploitation movies feel.
If this ain't 80's-I'm Kim Wylde!
