Am I the only horror fan that's never been into slashers?

Frankly, I've never been interested in the antics of Freddy Kreuger, Jason Vorhees nor Michael Myers. Is there something wrong with me? Am I not a 'true' horror fan? Have I dishonored, master?
Personally, I don't see the fun in watching people kill people (unless it's a cartoon). Now monsters (be it blobs, giant killer animals, aliens, werewolves, etc) killing/maiming people, THAT's my meat.
-shrugs- Who knows. It's been awhile since I've revisited the original Nightmare on Elm Street, and I'm strangely quite intrigued by Phenomena's premise (if merely because I myself am a major bug lover, so it appeals to me, so to speak =p).

I love Nightmare On Elm Street but mainly for the supernatural element of Freddy Krueger.  However, some dude walking around with a machete offing people doesn't interest me though.  I never got into most slashers either.

No, sir. You are free to like what you like. I like some slasher movies, but it's far from my favorite genre. Supernatural, and the monster stuff that you speak of, I do prefer that as well. 1982's The Thing is more up my alley than Friday the 13th. I do like me a good slasher sometimes, though.

I like it too. It's my favorite of Rob Zombie's output. I'm not convinced Zombie is much of a filmmaker yet, but this one I like.

I do like slashers, however the 'Big 3' (Elm St, Halloween, Fri 13th) have never really grabbed me tbh. I prefer the really low budget properly bad ones (Graduation Day, Aerobicide, Mutilator etc...)

Totally agree with you there, DCA. The 'Big 3' aren't really my personal faves. I too looove the more obscure low budget ones. Not obscure, but Black Christmas s**ts all over any of the F13th films. I've gone off on it before, but Just Before Dawn HAS to be the best slasher I've ever seen, bar none. It's good excellent acting, a great score, and a genuinely creepy feel all around. I wouldn't call it a typical slasher, but Maniac (1980) is an incredibly effective serial killer film. Blows away Henry: Portrait Of A serial Killer, if you ask me.

I go through periods where I watch various types of movies over a period of several weeks.  So, I might go through a "slasher" phase, where I'll dig out DVDs like FRIDAY THE 13TH, HALLOWEEN, TERROR TRAIN, PROM NIGHT, MY BLOODY VALENTINE, etc., and watch them over a short period of time.  Then I might go through a "giant monster" phase, a "Charles Bronson" phase, a "prison movie" phase or whatever.  So, I may be "into" slashers from time-to-time, but I wouldn't say I'm a die hard slasher fan or anything.

Well I'm not that big of a slasher fan myself, so you are not alone.  They just don't appeal to me and I'm a bit of a wimp when it comes to gore in films (shockingly, that hasn't scared me away from Piranha 3D.  Is my love of killer animals just so stronger than my wimpiness with gore?)

I'm not a big slasher fan but once in a while I'll watch one. The Burning was actually pretty good.  Prom night wasn't bad either. I liked the really catty girl.

Myself, I like both "Suspence" style horror and Slasher horror.  Honestly, I spend September and October getting ready for Halloween.  So I spend time those two months watching every horror flick I can, and usually balance it out with a Thriller type then a Slasher type "Texas Chainsaw Massacre" style film.  Meh.

I like slashers.  If and only if the characters are good.  Get some fun, likable kids together for some pot smokin' and other shenanigans and toss in some gratuitous nudity, while all the while we know they're doomed;  doomed I say!  It's just  entertaining.  But there are tons and tons of terrible ones out there.  I like the Friday the 13th ones the best, then maybe the Sorority House and Slumber Party Massacre series', the Prom Night Franchise, and a whole ton of more obscure stuff.  Never was much for Halloween, though 3 and 4 are good.  The first Nightmare on Elm Street was great, but I've little interest in any of the sequels.
