I saw this movie two days ago, I thought it was a pretty amazing film. Anyone seen it?

Yes. It's not my favorite Paul Thomas Anderson film, but I do like it and I think he is one hell of a filmmaker. I also think he is a uniquely American filmmaker. He has no fear, and embraces American archetypes for their best and their worst. I thought There Will Be Blood was sublime. I imagine there are probably some pretty mixed feelings on this site for PT's work, but I think he is first rate.

I thought it sucked.  Bunch of whiny-ass people, whining.  Then there was a song!  Blargh!  Then toads fell from the sky.

Sorry you felt that way. You are excused from all future PT Anderson films.

After Magnolia, I had no intention of seeking out any more of the man's work.

I thought it was really good. It's Tom Cruise's best work, aside (maybe) from his work in Tropic Thunder.
I also didn't know that Philip Baker Hall was such a serious actor. I was only familiar with him as the library cop from Seinfeld.

A guy from work let me borrow his dvd of it. It wasn't the type of thing I'd usually watch but I gave it a go. I would say that it is a good film, but it does have some stupid parts like the frog thing at the end. I also think that it is Tom Cruise's best performance, it's both intense and hilarious at the same time whilst remaining convincing.

Personally, I found Magnolia to be somewhat of a masterpiece.  Haven't seen it in years.  Gonna have to rent it sometime soon.

I'm a fan of Paul Thomas Anderson's films in general. I don't think he's made a bad film yet.
