She loved it. Ro's sense of humour is developing by leaps and bounds it seems. She was even laughing through all of the various Marv Newland credits at the beginning. When the foot came down, she laughed her head off. Then she had to show the video to Mommy.

I showed it to her because her interest in Godzilla just seems to keep growing, and we were watching clips on YouTube. Last week, she actually pulled all of my Godzilla VHS tapes off the shelf to look at them and ask questions. I'd like to show her a whole movie, but I'm still concerned that she might find them a little bit boring when the monsters aren't on the screen. Ro's favourite monster has been King Ghidorah for some time now, although she has recently developed an interest in Mechagodzilla and King Caesar. Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla might be a good one to start with.

At this point, I think Ro is ready to try a few more advanced movies than she's been watching. She seems to be getting a better handle on the scarier parts and being overly concerned about the characters. She can now watch nature shows and not get too upset when one animal eats another. And we recently watched a documentary show with CGI dinosaurs, and her opinion of a predator chasing and taking down its prey was that it was "awesome." Finding Bambi Meets Godzilla funny, rather than disturbing, has pretty much convinced me that she's turned a corner in terms of her appreciation of fiction.

Maybe after her sixth birthday next month, we'll watch a Godzilla movie together. Make it kind of a rite of passage. I was thinking she might also be ready for Star Wars. She's about the same age I was when I first saw it, and now that I can be pretty sure she won't get upset at the destruction of Alderaan or Porkins getting blown up, it might be worth considering. With a mounted poster hanging in the rec room, she's been very curious about Star Wars in the last year or so.

My 5 year old would undoubtedly enjoy that. I'll have to show it to him.
