I always believed the stuff about "James who's brother..." because its not really about Jesus it's about his brother and his position in Jewish society. At the same time its hard to believe the glowing "if he can even be called a man" stuff, if a scribe were to add something thats just about exactly what it would sound like.

also re: josephus the Masada story has been somewhat cherry picked and embellished and is not exactly as its represented in the Israeli ntaionalism and so forth. as you may be aware
