* Climax of John Woo's THE KILLER
* Climax of John Woo's HARD BOILED
* Climax of THE WILD BUNCH (probably shocking when the movie was released; not so much by today's standards)
* There's a scene in TOM HORN where a guy gets part of his head blown off.  It's pretty brief, but I wasn't expecting it.

There's a scene in Jim Jarmusch's Mystery Train that is far from a big shootout scene, but for some reason it was a disturbing image. A guy pulls out a gun and points it at a liquor store clerk, and the clerk says "I'm the guy who's gonna make you use that gun." A few seconds of silence, and then the gun goes off. The liquor store clerk just stands there for a few seconds, then drops. I think what makes it so effective is that it is actually realistic. I hate it when somebody in a movie takes a single shot from a handgun and goes flying back like they got hit by a bowling ball.

I like the shootout scene in The Crow.  There something just cool about using two pistols.  Plus the music is perfect for the action sequence.

Couldn't find a good video, but the part of Robocop 2 from the beginning of this video has always been a favorite of mine.  That thing is just scary   Buggedout

Hell, anything in the Robocop movies has just bats**t amounts of violence in their shootout scenes.

District 9 has a cool moment towards the end where the good guy sides with the oppressed aliens at the end and blows the human military into wet splatters.

Can't find a vid of the awesome Rambo IV shootout at the end without an advertisement.. jeez.  But it's pretty sweet.

A lot of people are posting their FAVORITE shootouts, which I have tons of..  But as far as SHOCKING ones go...  The one at the climax of Unforgiven comes to mind.  It's just quite unexpected in how it plays out, considering how western mythology is demolished for most of the rest of the film.  A little bit similar in feel is the end of Quigley Down Under - big spoilers below!

Another one is the one at the end of Heist, which if you pay attention to looks like most of the people involved don't know what they should be doing in a shootout - the only experienced characters in the scene, of course, clean up because of this.
