I don't seem to remember enough about this movie to find anything useful on Google, but maybe somebody here saw it once and remembers it...

From what I recall of the movie, there were scientists working in some big lab on something.  One of them was betrayed by the others and was locked inside the machine thing to be killed.  It got super hot and, well, killed him.

The charred remains of the body were kept by the researchers and put into this milky white liquid to preserve it for this project they're working on where they use a human body to make a kind of cyborg soldier thing.  (A premise similar to RoboCop, Universal Soldier, and I'm sure countless others.)

The cyborg thing looks like it's covered in a gold plated space suit.  Very shiny.  And where a belt buckle would be is some kind of little computer device which is apparently how they control it.  A woman in the lab has removed the device from the main guy to work on it, but he unexpectedly wakes up.  I think he kills her.  But either way, he's now not under their control and starts to remember everything.  In his escape there's a fire and his gold plating burns off, so for the rest of the movie his cyborgness is black and kind of charred and you can see the inner workings of the suit and part of his face, etc.

The rest of the movie is a little hazy, but we can assume he gets revenge on the people who killed him and probably has a chance to say good-bye to his grief-stricken love interest and so on.

I know I didn't imagine this.  It happened.  But what was that movie?
