While recording their upcoming album, Lulu, Lou Reed reduced Metallica's James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett to tears.

Lars Ulrich and James Hetfield claim that this is "the best music they've ever made and the best music anyone has ever heard"...  Lookingup

Small | Large

Sound like a big fat mess to me. I'm all for artists experimenting, but when you started out as an 80s thrash metal band it all starts getting a bit silly when you move 100% away from you original musical sub-genre, then are completely alien to any form of criticism. These guys just seem to have grown super egos over the past 15-20 years and I am baffled as to how Metallica fans just swallow this self-indulgent garbage up and then troll all over Youtube saying Metallica are the best band ever, just because they released "Master Of Puppets" back in '86! This is why I hate Metallica these days, because their output is so disappointing yet everyone just goes out an buys it anyway. Thank Satan the likes of Megadeth, Overkill, Testament, Exodus and Slayer are still giving the fans what they want and playing to their strengths. As for Lou Reed, he can do what he wants, he's 69 and not bound by any particular reputation or trends but he's embarrassing himself with this guff.

Had anyone else heard about this collaboration?

I know that this is stating the obvious, but it must be said:

Metallica, QUIT WHILE YOU'RE AHEAD.

I've heard about it, but have little to no interest in it. The brief sample that's making the YouTube rounds sounds like Lou doing a beat-poet spoken word thing while Metallica jams in the background....definitely not my thing.

My friend and I were talking about this collaboration the other day and we observed that while this is probably going to be a catastrophic failure and be the lowest selling Metallica project, it will probably still sell more copies than anything Lou Reed has done in 30 years. :)

I love lou reed and metallica so you think it was a great combination, but it was friggin' awful.

I haven't liked Metallica since the the black album came out, but they're concerts are selling out so they must be doing something right.

I don't get this at all. After their supposed "comeback" Death Magnetic (which I'm proud to say I haven't heard) they get it in their heads that this might me a good idea.  BounceGiggle Master Of Puppets was one of my fave albums back when they mattered. I thought the Black Album was pathetic (glad to say I didn't buy it). Everything since then has been a joke. I dunno, maybe James needs to start drinking again or something. BTW, I'm listening to Paradise Lost's "Embers Fire" right now. If there was any justice in the world they'd be as big as Metalllica are now and Metallica would be opening for Sword on their US dates.  Wink

Good grief. Does this forum have a "barfing" emoticon?  TeddyR  Seriously, if any of you can make it through this entire song you've got a stronger stomach than I do.

Sometimes I just don't bother listening to something that's posted, no offense to the person who posted it. It's just that I like Lou Reed for what he is, and I like Metallica for what they are. But this is a collaboration that just doesn't make any sense.

Exactly. I got nothin' against Lou Reed or Metallica separately, but they go together about as well as tuna fish and cheesecake.  TongueOut

I honestly used to be a huge metallica fan when I was first listening to metal, but now a days I pretty much only like the first two albums (Yep I don't like Master of puppets that much).

This might be worse then St Anger.

Well it's out "finally". Has anybody heard it? If you have, you have my deepest sympathy.

My girlfriend's friends are all big, big Metallica fans and they all hate it. It failed to chart anywhere, but NME did give it a favourable review. The NME does suck though.
