edit - lift meaning 'elevator' for you americans  Thumbup

It's one of those potential 'danger situations' that seems to be ingrained in our collective consciousness, but it's definitely never happened to me or anyone else I know

so basically... have you ever been in a lift that has suddenly stopped between floors? and if so, then what happened.

Once at work during the weekend.  I rang the emergency bell for a good half hour before someone responded.  I was stuck between the 3rd and 2nd floor.  The maintenance guys asked me if I knew where I was.  Kind of hard to tell when the doors won't open.  Lookingup

1/2 an hour, I think I probably would've flipped out. I don't think I'm especially claustrophobic but in that situation I might be

Once. Was stuck in an elevator with my sister and her agoraphobic 6 year old daughter for almost an hour. We spend most of the time trying to calm down the kid.
My niece still doesn't use lifts these days.

I live in Maryland,USA and "lift" as a noun I think doesn't really have many meanings here, at least I'm not aware of any. I mean I might say "Please help me lift this heavy box." However I don't think I've heard the word "lift" used as a synonym for "elevator" here, at least not outside of TV, movies and books. It might help to write Lift/Elevator. Either way, no I have not, thank goodness.

I was stuck in one alone for almost an entire morning when I was a kid. I only use them if I really have to.
