Battle of the Bands

Well, the Battle of the Bands has come and gone. Allow me to inform you guys on the details:

My band was called "Captain Bastardo and the Threevil Twins". Musically, we're an odd mix of metal and punk with a hint of surf music. What made us stand out from the other performers were our costumes. The guitarist had black make-up around the eyes with the rest of his face in white. Our bassist wore a black hood with mesh covering his face, thus making his identity a secret. The drummer adorned herself with a fake viking helmet and a bloody hockey mask. As for me, I wore a replica of a Canadian soldier helmet that was painted black along with an old hockey mask that was painted mostly black and had the mouth area cut out. We were a sight to behold.

We opened our set with the song "Fluorescant Mudfish". At first things went smoothly. But then around the second verse, two things went wrong. First of all, the PA system made the drums overpower the other instruments, therefore making it difficult to know when the verse started. Secondly, the guitarist in an act of anxiety played the riff after the chorus two times rather than four. The end result threw me off and the best I could do was make growling noises in the mic to compensate. However, by the second chorus, we got our sh!t together and completed the song nicely. The crowd cheered for us, but we knew that we could've done better.

Now, if the first song was a little shaky, the next three songs definitely made up for it. While the next song, "Frozen", was being performed, that's when the audience REALLY got into the music. They raised their fists and cheered, a welcome sight given the previous effort. With the third song, "Black Magic Ritual", everyone in the crowd cheered and clapped at the Sabbathesque composition. We finished the set with a cover of Napalm Death's infamous song: "You Suffer". The crowd got a good laugh out of it. With our set finished, we bowed and the audience was more than enthusiastic with their applause.

After each band had performed (there were six in total including us), the judges called all the bands to the stage and announced who the top three were.

We came in third place, a huge honour considering the fact that this was my first time performing on stage. I couldn't be happier.

That's excellent dude! I'm real proud of you. I remember the first few times I got up on stage, I crapped my pants! Whilst I am no fan of battle of the bands competitions, there is totally no shame in third place for your first public performance.
