Quote
In an interview with the Hartford Courant, Tim Larson, a Democratic State Representative, said that he wants to change the date of Halloween to the last Saturday of October. Larson argues that the revision would make it easier for parents, it would be safer for children and there would be economic growth.

Meh, I can partially see the point.  Having to run home at 4:30, eat and get the kids ready is kind of a hassle.  And I love Halloween.  Still, I'd say leave it as it is.  People commonly work weekends in our society and honestly I can't see Halloween any other date than Oct. 31.

I'd actually like that.  I enjoy having a few adult refreshments and a bit of a horror movie marathon on Halloween night, which isn't too practical when you have to go to work the next day.

Hmmm....good sound notion that. It would put a dent in the tradition but I kinda like the idea.

Not too shabby, but I think it would be just as easy to let kids have that day off from school (or maybe that day and the next, but I suppose that's asking a bit too much.)

Halloween is "halloween" because it is All Hallows Eve; the night before the procession of saints.  It's recognition of the spirit world predates such a notion, but its where it got its name.  The date is earlier but the name is an appropriation.  October 31 is the date, no other.

I agree with allhallowsday. The whole point of celebrating on oct 31 is that its the one night when the veil between the worlds is thinnest, and the spirits of the living and the dead co-exist. Reguardless of whether you believe that or find it ridiculous, changing the date defeats the purpose.
