I know that kids love free candy and they love free stuff....what do they like better?

Laying all my religious and personal beliefs aside, I think Christmas wins by a narrow margin: no costumes, but better loot.

Oh yea. A week's worth of candy is nothing compared to the cool loot from Xmas, plus I always got a bunch of candy anyways. Ive never gotten a computer, video games, or a bicycle for Halloween, let alone a couple weeks off of school.

I think the age of the child is a factor, but in the long run, I think Christmas wins out.

For most kids, probably Christmas. For kids with severe social anxiety, it can be a tie or Halloween wins out. For kids with birthdays on or around Halloween, usually Halloween I find (costumes+candy+presents+no drunken relatives or awkward family arguments over things your young mind can't understand).

Well, you've got to remember that kids have no way of hiding their naked greed. As an adult, you learn ways to kind of hide the fact that you just want a bunch of crap given to you.

Halloween is certainly more fun. The costumes, the faux-spookiness, it's just a great holiday. I think adults enjoy it more than kids, because you get to act goofy with it, which you're very rarely allowed to do.

But what do you get as a kid? A big bag of candy. I'm not saying that's not fantastic, it's like the Holy Grail for children. A ton of candy, and you're parents don't mind you pigging out on it? When does that happen? Answer: Once a year on Halloween.

But that bag of candy is small potatoes compared to the gifts you get on Christmas. That stupid toy you've been whining about for a year. You will probably get it on Christmas. That's when parents pull out the big ticket stuff. From my own recollection, candy is nothing compared to your very own Nintendo Entertainment System.

Now I'm old and get to buy all the stuff I want. I don't need to wait! A big bag of candy and a new video game? I can make that happen right now with a short trip to the store. Getting all my friends and family together for a nice meal? Much more difficult.

Christmas.  Kids get geared up for Christmas weeks or months in advance.  I think they get excited for Halloween for maybe a few days at most.
