My cat can eat a whole watermelon!

On the tail of Halloween...

I am not a fan of sugar. Just never have been. I like gooey chocolate cookies, but one bite is all I need. After that I'm done with the whole sweetness thing.

But there are some terrible foods out there that masquerade as candy. My personal worst candy? Circus peanuts. That's right, those peanut shaped logs of marshmallowy crap. They're awful. I've tried to imagine enjoying eating them, but I can't.

Second up on that list, candy corn, which is always disappointing. Third up on that list? Buttered Popcorn flavored Jelly Bellies.

Those are my worst candies, and for all of them I can name at least one person who absolutely loves them. Candy is very subjective.

So what's your worst candy?

I've actually got a great story about the worst candy I've ever eaten, which is tied with one of the worst things I've ever eaten (and I have eaten some truly objectionable foods). It's so bad I can't even imagine that it is something anybody anywhere would ever eat for pleasure. But people do, and I'm going to hold off on that story until I've heard a few of your responses.

Oddly I seem to keep on the mainstream.  I don't like most candy bars like Snickers.  I'll hate on virtually anything with caramel and nouget.

Although I'm a jelly bean junkie I detest jelly bellies.  Texture and taste both kind of stink.

And yes Mofo, circus peanuts are a curse of the candy gods.

Lagomorphs: menace or underutilized resource?

« Reply #3 on: November 07, 2011, 08:15:37 AM »

Any gummy candy definitely makes my list. Along with any kind of gum. Apparently me and chewy sweets are not a match made in heaven.  But I think the absolute worst candy I ever tried may well have been Necco Wafers: stale-tasting, hard and halfway chewy bits of nastiness. I will agree with the remarks made about candy corn. I have never been able to force myself to eat circus peanuts.

I am not much of a sweets eater. I eat about 4-5 candy bars a year, a few more cookies than that if they are available, and I enjoy ice cream every couple of months. I love my Dr Pepper, but that's about it for sweets. About once a year I buy some Robin's Eggs malt balls and maybe a roll of Spree candies.

Zagnut, Mounds or Almond Joy.  I don't like coconut in ANYTHING . . . but oddy enough, I do enjoy eating coconuts!

Turkish Delight. Tried one once, and it was just too sweet for me (note that I have a sweet tooth).

Peppermint Patties.  I hate the very strong peppermint.  For that matter, I hate peppermint Three Musketeers.

I like black licorice . . . which probably explains why I also like Sambuca!

I'm not a fan of candy corn.

I also have a strong hatred for those SweetTarts that masquerade as Smarties. I love Smarties. The miniature SweetTarts that come wrapped the same way and look the same as Smarties p**s me off.

Candy Corn is always bad.  Tastes more like wax than anything.

And then there's these things, marshmallow peeps:

Just some sort of sugary factory excretion as far as I can tell.

Black licorice is terrible too.

I agree on anything with coconut.  Blech!  Coconut smells wonderful but tastes awful.
Marshmallow peeps look delicious but taste terrible.
I've had those Necco wafers...Nasty!  Can't stand black licorice or even red licorice.
I wouldn't feed circus peanuts to my worst enemy.

Never buy that generic chocolate from the dollar store.  Dollar Tree sells some truly dreadful chocolate bars.  And anything with raisins such as Raisinettes...Yuck!

I actually do like candy corn.   Thumbup
Those popcorn Jelly Belly's are my favorite!  Can't stand the generic jelly beans.

Dunno, I simply love Peeps of any sort and candy corn. I also like Necco Waffers Oh well, more for me.  BounceGiggle

I'm actually in to what I hear a lot of people call "ghetto candy" where I live.  That would be the stuff you'd expect to find in dollar stores and outside the supermakets in those vending things for a quarter.  Mike N Ike, Runts, etc

Yep, simply because they are enough to uproot your teeth.

Sidenote, I had some REALLY AWFUL generic Swedish Fish a few months back.  They tasted about as bad as coughdrops.
