A good bad movie is like popcorn for the soul!

« on: September 15, 2012, 05:04:24 PM »

I have enjoyed this franchise since the first one came out, and I was excited to see the previews for this one earier this year.  I was surprised, though, when instead of live actors and CGI bugs, I got an entire CGI movie!

That being said - not too bad.  Lots of Mobile Infantry testosterone and bravado, buckets of CGI blood (both green and red!), and a fair amount of well rendered CGI nudity (the "flash of inspiration" scene made me laugh).

In short, a trashy, shallow, violent piece of adult sci-fi.  If you like the franchise, you will like this one.  If you didn't like the first one, don't bother.

BTW - one of the voice actors is the same guy who does the voice of the merchant Belethor in Elder Scrolls V: SKYRIM!

That sounds pretty cool, think I'll have to check it out.  Did you ever watch the Roughnecks:  The Starship Troopers Chronicles animated TV series?  I only saw a few episodes but I remember it being pretty good.

I think it was in syndication so it could have been on pretty much any channel.

I love the first one (especially the shower scene with Diz), like the second one (not as good as the first but still good) and have the third in the Netflix queue.  I will have to pick this one up too.

I wish it could be live actors, oh well.

Thanks for letting us know about the fourth installment.

Later,

John

First heard of this about 2 weeks ago and it interests me, but I was disappointed with the Roughnecks series (watched a few of them).  Quite a bit of that disappointment was due to the animation.  How is the animation in this one? You mentioned it being well-rendered, but can you quantify that somehow - perhaps comparing it to another popular animation?

It reminded me of the animated version of BEOWULF from a couple years back.

I remember seeing the "Roughnecks" animated series on Saturday mornings on Sci-Fi Channel (when it was still "Sci-Fi," not "SyFy") but that was years ago.
