Okay, I apologize beforehand, as this is the vaguest of memories.  Here is all the info I can give:

1) The movie takes place in some deep underground world with lots of red lighting and may or may not be Hell with demons, or some kind of alternate dimension.  I just remember lots of red lighting for some reason.

2) One of the characters, possibly the main character, is a man with really muscular arms/forearms and the special effects for this character were really bad, almost like he was a stop-motion character like those music videos from Tool in the 90's.

3) At the end of the movie the muscular character does not escape and is trapped in 'hell'.  He makes it to a door or cave entrance or whatever and it closes up, and we see the red light shining through the door vanish and fade to total black. I remember the ending being very sad and depressing.

4) There is a T-shaped hole in a wall that is some kind of keyhole.  I remember they had to put some kind of brick or something in this hole to open it.

5) Its an old movie.  Pretty sure its from the 80's, probably the early 80's, possibly the late 70's.

That's all I remember.  If someone can figure this one out my jaw will drop!

Sounds a bit like The Keep from 1983.  At least the T-shaped crosses match, and there's a short scene where the camera pans way back and we see this huge room inside the keep, which is a bit hellish.

Yes that's it!!  I didn't recall anything about WWII or Nazis but the ending to "The Keep" is definitely what I was thinking of. The way Scott Glenn's character lumbers about with that blank look on his face was another aspect I had forgotten.

Thanks Jack!!!
