Thanks for the tip. I've never seen it. I've also never seen much of the original series, but what I saw I liked. Now I have to look into watching the original series. As if I didn't have enough to watch. Thanks a lot AHD!

Actually, though, "Dark Shadows" is fodder for way too many fond memories for me (in original incarnation, reruns, and the early '90s remake) I'm prejudiced... but the original series nonetheless is creaky and weak.   The OUT OF PRINT film HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS is fast-paced and even wonderfully early '70s creepy.  It was available on VHS (I own it) but it's not yet been released on dvd!  Unbelievable, yes, BUT DAN CURTIS died a few years ago and he was always the driving force behind "Dark Shadows".

It's coming on in 14 minutes!!!

I saw this in the theater with my dad when I was about 6 years old.  I think it was the first horror movie I ever saw in a theater.

It's great seeing Johnathan Frid get to play Barnabas as a full fledged Hammer-style vampire. I love the way the local police don't seem to be too terribly surprised to learn there are vampires around and even seem to have wooden stakes and silver bullets already handy.

It had to be confusing to fans of the series since characters who were alive and well on the daily program were killed off and/or vampirized in the movie.

FUN FACT: Frid's 'Old Barnabas' mask was made from the same mold as Dustin Hoffman's 'Old Jack Crabb' mask in LITTLE BIG MAN.

I think NIGHT OF DARK SHADOWS is underated. It stands alone as a good spook story.
It has a spooky mood, it is a spooky movie. I enjoy it.
If you get over the thing that there is no Barnabus and vampires (which the original series never had until much later),then you might enjoy it for the gothic cheese that it is.

HOUSE OF DARK SHADOWS was fun! The TV show...I watched it back in the day-I thought it was cool!
Of course I was 8 years old. I have watched it since. DAM! It's awful.  Bluesad
The DARK SHADOW movies were fun. The show was awful! I been watching the reruns on Hulu.
It's so bad it's good. It is really BAD. If I was 8 years old, like when I usta watch it,it MIGHT be good.
I love it. I been watching it every day.

I remember watching reruns of DARK SHADOWS on late night NBC TV with my brother and sister in the early 1980s.  It was the first time I had seen the show since it had originally aired.  I could not believe how BAD the show was, including wobbly sets, Barnabas routinely forgetting his lines, camera and sound people lurking behind the sets - visibly!!!
