My wife and I watched Paranormal Activity 3 yesterday, and got to talking about a strange thing that happened in our household sometime back, but that we've never really discussed at length, just kind of joked about it from time to time. Now, I am a predominantly skeptical person about paranormal things, and will probably continue to be so, mostly because I find the vast majority of paranormal claimes to be worthy of skepticism. I do try to keep my mind open, however, I just have a healthy awareness of the human tendency to embellish.

Anyway, it goes like this. My step-father, first name Bob, passed away when our oldest son, Miles, was about 6 months old. He did manage to spend a good deal of time with Miles before he died, something that gave him great joy and which I am happy about, because he was a true patriarch to our family despite being a step.

There was a brief period of maybe six months or so, starting when Miles was about 2 and a half years to 3 years old, when he would occasionally talk about somebody named "Bob," and even a couple of instances when he would seem to be talking to somebody names "Bob." Now, he has never known anybody else named Bob in his life, and was too young at the time of his death to actually remember the name. Yet, here was a period of time where he was saying the name Bob. Did he pick it up from a t.v. show? Maybe, I just don't recall seeing anything with "Bob" in it. Where did he get "Bob" from?

Anyway, neither my wife nor I have heard him say it for a while, but I remember doing some head-scratching about it at one time, but we just kind of shrugged and moved on because nothing unusual was happening outside of that. I don't draw any conclusions about it, simply because there is not nearly enough of anything on which to base any. A movie simply brought on the discussion, and I felt like sharing. One thing is for sure, we haven't been able to find any logical explanation for the sudden occurrence of the "Bob" talk thus far.

I see two options.
One, he does remember. Maybe it stayed in his subconscious, and something recalled it. I'm not an expert on the field, however.
The other option is this:

I don't think it's the second one.

Did he ever watch the kids show Bob The Builder?

Not cracking wise or anything.  Just curious.

I'm personally a big believer in things of the paranormal and such, and that's a whole other discussion that may be a bit off-topic.  Just was wondering is all. Question

Perhaps he latched onto the name "Bob" because it is a fun word to say. It's a great group of sounds. Not as fun as the word "f**k," but I'm willing to bet you're hoping that's more than few years away.

The other option is that he is the reincarnation of J.R. "Bob" Dobbs, the greatest salesman who has ever lived. If that's the case, best keep it under wraps. I can't imagine anybody who wants a bunch of SubGenii making pilgrimages to their house.

I thought about that. He may have had some exposure to Bob the Builder, but if he did, it wasn't much. Also, he is intellectually advanced and remembers things that are quite staggering sometimes. He watched a video a few times from a few months ago that had people speaking in different languages, counting, saying the alphabet, etc. He hasn't watched the video in several months. A couple of weeks ago he was counting to 20 in German. HE JUST TURNED 4! What's more, he understands that he is counting numbers, he's not just repeating something. If I show him the number 15 and ask him to say it in German, he will say it in German. Amazing. Emotionally he is a little behind, but intellectually, my God. And he figures this stuff out on his own, like when he taught himself to play Twinkle Twinkle on a keyboard by ear right around his 3rd birthday. I'd like to say we nurtured it, but we didn't.

Anyway, yeah, I don't know the explanation, I just remember us wondering why he was talking about Bob all of the sudden.
