Perhaps early '80s.  I remember this scene, inside a house with children (I think) who were turning into balls of light.  Basically, you see these bodies suddenly glowing and screaming (because this is the way the aliens did things, apparently) and sort of curling into themselves, transforming into these glowing, screaming corpse-like things.  But they were still screaming, and glowing, these corpse-like things.  And then something inside the transforming bodies sort of exploded, but the bodies would remain intact and then they eventually turned into these glowing balls of light.  Then the scene switches to exterior, to a shot over the town, and you see several of these lights hovering over the entire town.

I remember at the end of the movie, every ball of light is transformed back into a human, and there was this one particular ball of light that changed above a street lamp and the human man was sitting on top of the street lamp (it was supposed to be funny).

Any help is appreciated.  Thanks!!!

Thank you, JaseSF!  It is indeed Strange Invaders.  I don't remember it being *that* spoofy...LOL.  And it's amazing how the memory of special effects improves with time (age?), until you watch again and it's like...huh, that's it?

I can't post links, but it can be found on a certain popular video-upload site.

The transmogrification scene that had me so disturbed as a youngster is at about 1:06:35.  I had a much more violent version of this movie in my head.

I would say this is solved.  Mods, feel free to transfer this post to the solved section.
