I learned from a film critic that the B-movies orginaly ment Budget, as in Budget Movie, made on a low budget. The term now means Bad. Lots of high budget movies are considered b-movies because snobby critics don't like them. The B can stand for anything you want, because it is what's inside that counts.

There's a wierd variation: The term b-movie usually refers to low-budget films that aren't very good. But when a good cheap film is made (say, Evil Dead or Night Of The Living Dead or Halloween), it's called low budget, and how little it costs (and the pricetag fluctuates wildly depending on what you read) is mentioned all the time, intoning that high quality was mined from such a small budget. But now everything is "independent". Am I the only one that thinks The B-Movie Spirit Awards or Sundance B-Movie Festival has a ring to it?
