If it weren't for some good internet friends with whom I converse on facebook, then yeah I would probably have deleted my account long ago.

I've got an account but almost never go there.  Some old friend of mine insisted I sign up for it so I could see her page or something.  I thought it might be useful as various places use it as a site to make announcements about their products, but there's WAY too much drivel to sort through to find those announcements.

I can't believe they made a movie about the guy who invented Face Book. I worry about our society when computers replace books.
It seems to me that are kids are being taught by the mass media to be lemmings.
Sure-I'm a product of mass media. I'm of the TV generation. But I only had 3 channels of tv when I was a kid. I had lotsa time to wander out in the woods,go fishing at the creek, sit in my treehouse(that I built myself) and read comic books, climb the highest tree and just THINK.

I read an articale in the Detroit Free Press-(it's not local, but they got 3-count 'em' 3) crossword puzzles and 2 Sudokos! a day!) about how collectors are getting rid of their stuff because the Internet already has it.

Sad.

I like that I can be sitting on my porch with a glass of ice tea and a book. I like when I get home from work, aint s**t on TV but American Idol or some stupid reality show and opt to read a Shirley Jackson story. I'm f**king estatic about gettin Stephan Kings new novel.

I like the smell of old comic books. Kinda musty.

I like the smell of mothballs in the morning.

Facebook has allowed me to connect with some people I haven't been in touch with for many, many years.  That is the main reason I use it.

I sort of have a love/hate relationship with FB. There are times when I enjoy using it, and then there are times I get annoyed with it and ignore FB for about a week.
As I said in RC's recent FB thread, I don't think I'm FB material. I always feel awkward sharing personal thoughts/problems, I rather share pics of food I cooked, Blu-rays I bought and music I like. Which might be boring to others but my life isn't all that interesting to begin with.

I've realized how enjoyable some people are through FB.  Though...I've realized how annoying some people are too.

Yeah, I have a similar feel.  But there's too many people that I have no other way of contacting for me to give it up.

I used to get semi-regular comments on things I post (I probably post a couple times a week on average).  Stopped getting almost any.  A major reason is they changed the way people receive updates.  If they haven't looked at your profile in a while, they often won't receive your updates in their newsfeed.

Basically, this means if you don't regularly post stuff interesting enough to get people to check out your profile, you'll not be noticed.  Which is kind of a vicious cycle, as it makes me less and less interested in the whole thing.  Oh well.

It's a cool way to keep in contact with a core group of friends (whom sadly some of whom are not as active posting on other boards these days) but I try never to put anything too too personal on there, mostly I'll just put up some quotes or something. Putting personal business and drama on there is the same nowadays as broadcasting stuff to the world and I really believe some just use it hoping to get their share of fame with their friends. Me, I hate personal drama BS and this is the worst element of Facebook.

Oh.  Darn.  Guess I will have to keep checking on you here then.  I had better come up with BM.org-worthy material for posting.

I have an account, don't use it much at all. I'm just not social enough for "social networking" I guess. However, I think I'll start a site for "anti-social networking." Just have to come up with an appropriate title, but I would use Rene Magritte's painting as basis for the logo:

And the site would require that members post a picture of themselves with their face obscured by something as to be unrecognizable. If they posted a picture that actually reveals them, we would obscure their face for them.

I think I've might have something here, sort of a surrealist version of facebook that focuses on the communication of ideas rather than image. Hmmmm.
