I hate 'em. What's most disturbing is how seriously addicted to them some people are, especially teenagers. It's like they spend more time texting on their phones than they do actually talking to real people sometimes. And then there's the folks that talk on their phones while working. Focus on your damn job already.

I hate 'em . . . but mostly I hate the people who feel the need to use them every minute of every day.  I see people backing out of their driveways with their cell phones pressed against their ears.  You haven't even been out of the house for 30 seconds and you already need to get on the phone?  And people walking around the mall texting.  Pick up your head and watch where you're walking!  In the supermarket . . . "Hi Doris . . . should I get Cheerios or Special K?"  In the gym?  Stop this f**king madness.

I had a cheap one that I never used, so after it sat in the bedroom for about a year my wife figured I didn't like it, so she bought me a cooler one that flips open like a Star Trek communicator.  I think it's got a camera and stuff on it - there's a little round thing on the front that I assume is a lens.  I think you can even get on the internet with it.  I dunno, when I start pressing buttons on it all I get is a calendar.

Oh well.

I'll admit, I'm a hopeless cell phone junkie.  BUT I haven't bumped into anyone, and I do not EVER text while driving.

I will also admit I have no problem with them.

I recently got an iPhone and I have to admit I dig it. I wouldn't consider myself addicted, however. I don't do much talking on it, and 90% of my texting is with my wife, and half of that is "can you pick up milk and juice on the way home?" I would say most of my use of it is music and apps.

I don't hold the feeling that cellphones are the bane of humanity as some do, but I can see some problems with it. My problems with mobile devices have more to do with manners than anything else. If I am spending time with somebody then they have my attention, and I don't let my mobile device intrude. When people don't have manners then I get annoyed. If they do, then I don't.

I'm not a fan, mostly because I am not convinced having one is absolutely essential and it is so annoying to be told over and over that I MUST have one.  For emergencies, fine, but from what I have seen, 99% of the use they get is pretty low priority stuff.  People say to me, " But what if someone calls you and you are working in the barn?"  That's what the answering machine is for, folks.   Lookingup  The only use I would have for one is to be able to recall my husband who tends to wander off and disappear for several hours at a time, usually browsing in the grocery store (seriously: he browses food aisles they way other people do book/movie/music stores) or just gabbing with people he meets.

I don't really mind cellphones, I just dislike a lot of people who use them.

This. I absolutely hate how when a person's phone rings it's as if every call they get is a life-or-death emergency, always more important than the people they are actually with at the time. Try this sometime: when the phone of a person you're talking to rings, just ignore it and keep on with the conversation. More likely than not they CAN NOT handle it and have to answer their phone. It's even better when they've set it down and you are between them and their phone. You can see that many simply can not handle the idea they can't pick it up immediately, you can see a wave of "I don't care about THIS conversation any longer" come across their face and they anticipate whoever is on the phone.

A few months back I was at a training conference with Marines I rarely see in person.  A few of us went out for dinner together.  Just trying to have a conversation was like pulling teeth.  Finally ate my dinner and watched the others play games on their smartphones or have conversations with people elsewhere.  When asked about doing some together again later I immediately turned down the opportunity.  No thanks

If I'm with somebody, then that's who I want to be paying attention to and actually be "with."

I had no real interest in them until after our Mom's stroke and she still lived at home. The ringing of a phone made her nervous and jumpy so we got cell phones that we could put on "vibrate". Now she lives in a nursing home but I've gotten so used to having it that I'm always using it. Plus I like having the camera always available.
