Released on DVD this week by Trinity X in the UK (and not yet available in the US),
Break is a rather mean spirited German take on the American redneck-slasher horror as a group of girls are hunted down by two sadistic killers.
Despite being filmed in Germany and with an all German cast, this film is actually set in the US (making the German accents a little odd) and the first-time writer/director Matthias Olof Eich never really puts a European stamp on proceedings. There is certainly plenty of gore and a very brutal rape scene, but (for better or worse) nothing to match what you might have expected from someone like Olaf Ittenbach.
Fans of films like
Hills Have Eyes will probably enjoy this, but don't expect anything revolutionary -
Break reviewed (caution - gory images in review).
