A good bad movie is like popcorn for the soul!

« on: June 28, 2012, 12:13:54 AM »

A year ago Jill Morgan of Portland, OR was kidnapped.  Taken from her bed in the middle of the night, she was dragged to a remote section of a huge local park and dropped into a hole in the ground, where she found the remains of the abductor's previous victims eroding out of the bottom.  After sunset he climbs down into the hole to finish her off, but she manages to overpower him and escape.  At dawn the next morning, she staggers into a camping area, filthy and terrified, and the police are called in to investiigate the crime.

WHICH MAY NEVER HAVE HAPPENED.

Jill has a history of mental illness and suffered severe depression when her parents died.  She had no defensive wounds, no evidence of sexual assault, and the police were unable to find the location she was allegedly taken to. Privately, she is written off as a deeply disturbed young woman who imagined or concocted the whole thing.

Fast forward to today.  Jill comes home to find her sister Molly, who lives with her, missing.  No clothes taken, no books taken, missing a huge mid-term exam.  Jill reports the abduction to the police . . . . who don't believe her.

This sets in motion one of the best and most fast-paced thrillers I have seen in a long time.  In fact, this is the best movie of this genre I have seen since TAKEN, which I absolutely loved.  Lots of twists and turns along the way, and an ending that is truly epic.  NO SPOILERS, OK, but the ending is one of the most emotionally satisfying I have ever seen. This is a really great little movie; not perfect - there are a  few little things here and there that could have been done better - but well worth the cost of the rental.

I checked it out and was rewarded.  Thanks for the recommendation!  I was very pleasantly surprised by the plot, and it seemed genuinely ambiguous at a number of points as to whether she had really been kidnapped or not.  The ending was good and emotionally satisfying as you said.

And Amanda Seyfried is an absolute doll.  Literally, she looks like a doll.  If she plays a replicant in a remake of Blade Runner it would be perfect!
