We're all just victims of circumstance

« on: July 06, 2012, 07:31:40 AM »

It's dry here folks, we haven't had any rain here for a month of more and the the temp has been hovering around 100 F for about 3 weeks.

The Arkansas Forestry Commission has been fighting several wildfires a day for the last couple of weeks.   These range from a few acres to a few hundred.

73 of our 75 counties are under burn bans.

Looking at the info from this site the prognosis doesn't look good. http://www.drought.gov/portal/server.pt/community/forecasting

Hill County here in Texas isn't under a burn ban yet but several around us are.

We've been on water restriction, not due to drought, but since three pipelines were smashed by a collapsing bridge at Swimming River Reservoir treatment plant... meanwhile that same day my local municipality had an unrelated completely separate watermain break (again).  We were  on boiling water for three days... and water restriction.  We have had rain and heatwave.

I'm in Monmouth County and we have had some rain.  Just can't water the garden... where are you in NJ?

Last year we were in a very severe drought; this year we got enough rain that our local reservoirs are pretty full and the soil isn't totally parched yet.  That being said, it's hot and dry now, but hey! It's Texas in August.  What do you expect?

Sounds like good weather to me. Maybe I should move to the UK. I can wear my leather jacket everyday! Thumbup

(that's 38C in the shade for our international friends)

Due to extreme drought, the burn ban in Indiana has ben enforced with gusto. By "gusto" I mean heavy fines and prison sentences.  Of course enforcing a burn-ban over 4th of July here means that there was no celebrating independence day with fireworks because all of our rain is falling in the UK.

well played Britian, well played...

@Allhallowsday, looks like we'll have a nice rain storm tonight... 9pm. Let's hope this cools things off.

That's moving SE.

Southeastern NC here.  Not much rain so far this summer.  We did have a large storm come through last Sunday, winds up to about 85mph in some places.  We certainly need the rain, as a recent wildfire in a state preserve here showed.  Seems we get more and more large wildfires each year here.
