Here's a Something Weird DVD-R I bought and suffered through over the weekend.

It's true, "If you're an Andy Milligan fan there's no hope for you."

This is Milligan's dreadfully cheap version of DR. JEKYLL AND MR. HYDE.  Nope . . . Jekyll doesn't have two heads.  He has one head, but sometimes it has some crappy Mr. Hyde make-up on it.  (And by the way, that's William Jekyll and his alter ego isn't even called Mr. Hyde . . . it's called . . . uh . . . Danny?????)

If you're familiar with Milligan's movies, this one should be no surprise.  The costumes look like they were purchased from the local costume store, the make-up looks like it was purchased at the local Halloween store and applied by a 12 year old, the dialogue is copious and boring, and the movie is full of Milligan's spinning, tilting camera work and awful, abrupt, jumpy editing.  Also, the sound has Milligan's trademark "microphone in the middle of an empty room" quality.

Run away!  Run away!

I can just picture them going through the brainistorming process to come up with a name for this.

"Dr. Jekyll and Danny?  ... no that'll never work.  The Man with two personalities?  ... nah.... The Man with One Head? ... hmmm... that's closer...."

The distributor came up with the title, which was designed to cash in on the success of The Thing with Two Heads. Milligan had nothing to do with it and probably hated it. His original title was Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Blood.

And Milligan didn't think DR. JEKYLL AND MR. BLOOD was a dumb title?

Dumb it may be, but it suits the subject matter of the film more, although one wonders where Andy got the idea to call his Mr. Hyde character Mr. Blood, especially as he's never called that in the film.

Don't be too hard to Andy. He was in such a rush that he misspelled Robert Louis Stevenson's name in the credits. I also like the prostitute (who looks suspiciously like a man wearing a wig) who appears to be talking to herself (or himself) at the beginning of the film. Andy wants us to think she (or he)'s on a busy street, surrounded by potential customers. What we get is this person walkng up and down on their own outside a house, while laughably obvious sound effects of horse carriages, pedestrians etc. play on the soundtrack.
