The Munsters!
Small | Large

The Addams Family
Small | Large

I wasn't around during either show's initial runs.  But, I did get to watch both in rerun syndication, plus the show "The Munsters Today" or whatever it was in the '80s, as well as The Family Channels "New Addams Family".  I also got to witness the films "The Addams Family" and "Addams Family Values" starring Raul Julia.

It always seemed, whenever speaking to people, they either preferred Munsters or preferred The Addams.

Watching some old dvd's I have of both, I love both for different reasons.  I honestly can't say I love one more than the other.  I was curious if people here had any opinions.

As a kid, I think I preferred the Munsters. Simpler humour and familiar monsters.

As an adult, I lean more toward the Addams Family, because the comedy is a bit more sophisticated, twisted and even subversive. While the Munsters are a relatively normal family who happen to be monsters, The Addamses are downright strange and perverse.

That said, I like both shows.

I love both shows, but I've gotta give a slight edge to The Addams Family just because I really dig Carolyn Jones as Morticia.

Oooh that's tough! I do like both very much, but if I had to pick one over the other I'd go with The Munsters. Herman always cracked me up (and freaked me out a bit).

What I do appreciate about The Addams Family is the writing seems as if Groucho Marx was involved. In fact, the producer/head writer was close friends of Groucho and based many of Gomez's mannerisms on Marx.

I love both of them. Honestly I find The Munsters a bit funnier and The Addams Family a bit more clever yet I cannot dislike any of these classic characters.

The Addams Family was on a channel we didn't get, so I grew up watching the Munsters.

Addams Family.

Munsters fans, I respect your fandom and the show, but I can't get into it to save my life.

While I loved both shows, I'd have to give THE ADDAMS FAMILY a slight lead. Morticia was hotter, and the family was cooler.

If it's true what they say, that GOD created us in His image, then why should we not love creating, and why should we not continue to do so, as carefully and ethically as we can, on whatever scale we're capable of?

And she spoke French! Thumbup

Liked both, gravitated to the Addams family for the same reasons as AndyC.
Another way to look at it; The Addams were upper middle class, the Munsters Working class. But ya know, I kinda think they'd get along.

Matter of fact, what if they were related? Hey, now there's a remake waiting to happen... Smile

This was tough.

I went with both.
I love the first two Addams Family movies, but to this day, I prefer The Munsters when I see repeats on the telly. Although the jokes are kinda cheesy, they still make me smile.

I like the darkness of the Addams show, but it wasn't as dark as the later films or even the comic strip.

I have to give it to the Addams Family only because as a child in the 90s I really enjoyed the movies, since we were exposed to that a lot more.  That being said I saw more of the Munsters TV show then I did the Addams Family and found them both very similar.

I still enjoy both, but overall I like the transgressive/subversive nature of the Addams Family alot more.

They're both cool, but I must go with the concensus of the Addams' incredibly hot Morticia.
