"Once there was a Hushpuppy and she lived with her daddy in the Bathtub" turns out to be a literal description of the plot in this ridiculously original fairy tale about a young girl living with her alcoholic father on an island cut off from the Louisiana mainland by the Katrina floodwaters. It's sort of like THE TREE OF LIFE set in a post-apocalyptic bayou, with the best performance you'll see by a six-year old in the most original movie of the year.
There are lots of 6-year old girl dream sequences and it might be too arty and outside your comfort zone, but if you liked TREE OF LIFE, give it a try. If I had to vote today I'd name it the best movie of the year.
